WHO ARE EXPLORERS?
420 Explorers are youth, ages 12-17, who are first-time or newer sailors. This class focuses on building confidence and learning the basics of sailing in a fun, non-competitive environment.

The curriculum is centered around fun activities and games to engage students while teaching fundamental skills.

Classes include brief lessons and demonstrations on land, followed by on-the-water practice. Coaches stay in safety boats to ensure sailors’ safety and provide guidance.

Students will learn how to rig the boat, tack, gybe, sail upwind and downwind in various wind conditions, land at a dock, and tie knots.

Sailing every day is not guaranteed. If wind or weather conditions are unsafe, we will play games and learn onshore.

WHAT’S NEXT?
After checking off their Explorer skills, sailors are ready to move on to 420 Cruisers.
