WHO ARE OPTIMIST RACERS?                                                                                                                                                                                         New in 2024, there will be one Optimist Race team for youth ages 9-13 who want to continue to learn about the exciting sport of sailboat racing. This change combines the Intro to Race class and the Opti Race class. The Optimist Race Team is an exciting opportunity to fully experience the fun and challenge of sailing at a higher level. Opti Racers have passed the Opti Cruisers class or have demonstrated an ability to handle the boat independently and are familiar with or want to learn about sailboat racing.

MORE SPECIFICS:
Students will improve racing concepts including starts, upwind and downwind sailing, as well as boat trim for speed, racing rules, strategy, tactics, and more.

We encourage sailors to register for multiple sessions and participate in the popular Twin Cities Youth Sailing regattas on Fridays. MSC provides Optis and coach support for the TCYS regattas. Regatta entry fees and transportation are not included.

WHAT’S NEXT?
Opti racers should stay in Opti race camp until they are ready for 420 Cruisers or 420 Intro to Race.
