WHAT’S AN OPTIMIST?
The 8 ft Optimist Pram is an ideal boat for learning. It is a stable boat and is easy to handle on the water. This boat is the go-to learning boat for sailing centers around the world.

WHO ARE OPTI EXPLORERS?
Opti Explorers are first-time or newer sailors, ages 7-11, looking for a fun introduction to sailing. Sailors will gain confidence and independence on the water while sailing alone or with a partner. Students learn the basics of sailing in a fun Summer Camp environment, using hands-on adventures and games to learn sailing.

This Half Day class is better suited for younger kids who want a shorter summer camp during the day and may get tuckered out spending a full day at the lake. The Full Day sailors are ready to spend a full, action-packed day at sailing camp. They take a 1-hour lunch break to cool off and recharge at the lake.

MORE SPECIFICS:
We place 1-3 sailors per boat (Sailors will be paired with a partner on Day 1 for the entire session) to make them feel comfortable while learning, and each instructor supervises eight or fewer sailors. If you prefer your child sail alone or have a friend/sibling you want them to sail with; please indicate that while registering.

The activities and adventures change each session to encourage sailors to return to check off all their skills.

WHAT’S NEXT?
After taking this course, sailors who have completed all their Explorer skills should move on to Optimist Cruisers.
