WHO ARE JUNIOR EXPLORERS?
Junior Explorers are first-time or newer sailors, ages 5-6, looking for a fun introduction to sailing. Sailors will gain confidence on the water guided by their instructor in the boat. Students learn the basics of sailing, get comfortable being on the water, and spend time jumping and swimming from the boat. Students always wear a properly fit life jacket. This fun Summer camp-like environment is a great way to help your little ones get comfortable with on-the-water activities and, best of all, sailing! 

The Junior Explorers class is best suited for younger kids who want a shorter summer camp during the day and may get tuckered out spending a full day at the lake. 

WHAT’S AN ENSIGN?
The 22’ Ensign Keelboat is an ideal boat for learning. It is a stable boat and is easy to handle on the water. 

MORE SPECIFICS:
We place eight sailors per boat with an instructor to ensure they are safe and comfortable while learning. 

Getting out on the water each day of the session is not guaranteed. On days when the wind is too high to be on the water safely, we play games and learn on shore. 

WHAT’S NEXT?
After taking this course, sailors 7 and older are ready for the half-day or full-day Opti Explorers class. Students are welcome to keep coming back to Junior Explorers as long as they are in the 5-6 age range.
